About the Presenter

Prof Emilio Chuvieco

Emilio Chuvieco is currently Profesor of Geography at the University of Alcalá ( Spain ), where he coordinates the master and Ph.D. program n Remote Sensing and G.I.S., and correspondent member of the Spanish Academy of Sciences.

He has taught courses in twelve different countries. He was visiting Scholar at the Universities of Berkeley, Nottingham, Clark, Cambridge, Santa Barbara, Maryland and the Canada Center for Remote Sensing.

He has coordinated 26 research projects and 20 contracts. He has supervised 27 Ph.D. dissertations and is the coauthor of 290 scientific papers and 23 books.

The seminar will present the latest results of the fire_cci project, currently developed within the ESA Climate Change initiative to develop critical information for climate modellers.

The fire_cci will derive burned pixels from ATSR, VGT and MERIS data.

In addition, the determination of burn severity from coarse and medium resolution satellite data will be presented.
