Prof Karen Gibb

Karen Gibb has a PhD in Plant Virology from the University of Adelaide and after graduating took a position at the University of Kentucky, USA. Karen was appointed to Charles Darwin University in 1989 and has developed a research focus on the impact of stressors on microbes and coastal processes.

Karen leads a molecular ecology unit called Bioscience North Australia (BNA) and an environmental monitoring consultancy – the Environmental Analytical Chemistry Unit (EACU). Leadership of BNA and the EACU has facilitated projects that blend biology, ecology and chemistry. Externally funded collaborative projects include studies on Acid Mine Drainage, Coastal Monitoring using Metal Resistant Microbes and In-shore Catchment Bacteria Assessment.
