Strategic programs

RIEL drives research collaboration and adoption through its participation in a wide range for activities and programs. Here's a showcase of some selected examples.

Environmental Chemistry and Microbiology Unit (ECMU)

Environmental Chemistry and Microbiology Unit (ECMU) comprises an interlocking suite of expertise, services, and laboratory capabilities. We provide options for research and consultancy that are of unique benefit to agencies and industry operating in northern Australia.

Centre for Renewable Energy

The Centre for Renewable Energy is the backbone of research to support renewable energy development in the Territory.

NAFI (North Australian Fire Information

The NAFI site was developed by the former Tropical Savannas Cooperative Research Centre and north Australian fire managers and is supported by the Northern Territory Government. It sources relevant fire management data, such as hotspots (locations of recently burning fires as deteced by satellites) and fire scars (maps of recently burnt country as detected by satellites) and displays them as maps tailored to north Australian conditions.

NERP Northern Australia Hub

The Northern Australia Hub will focus on the terrestrial, freshwater and estuarine ecosystems of the northern savanna landscapes. Much of the research has an adaptive “catchment to coast” planning and management framework.

NAMRA (North Australia Marine Research Alliance)

Based in Darwin, NAMRA brings together the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS), Charles Darwin University (CDU), the Australian National University (ANU) and the Northern Territory Government to build marine research capacity and capability in northern Australia.

TRaCK (Tropical Rivers and Coastal Knowledge)

TRaCK (Tropical Rivers and Coastal Knowledge) is a research hub which has drawn together more than 80 of Australia's leading social, cultural, environmental and economic researchers.  Our research focuses on the tropical north of Australia from Cape York to Broome.
