The project examined experiences in co-management from Australia and engaged local stakeholders in Langkawi in discussions about cooperative management of Kilim Karst Geoforest Park, Langkawi Geopark. We conducted a series of stakeholder focus group discussion workshops(government, private sector, community residents)and interviews to identify shared values, responsibilities, aspirations and recommendations for cooperative management. We also conducted a literature review of Malaysia's policy and legal framework regarding conservation and natural resource management. The research has identified a preliminary mechanism for cooperative management of Kilim geoforest park drawing on the lessons and experience from Australian protected areas and applying the concepts and principals of €˜cooperative management' offer potential for improving management of Langkawi conservation areas. In collaboration with UKM LESTARI researchers Dr Sharina Abdul, Prof's Ibrahim Komoo and Norzaini Azman.
